
The Junior Sports Programme was extended in 2003 to
support individuals competing in junior events at an international
level.
HOCKEY: David Overton
Goalkeeper David Overton is a member of both Leadenham and Lincoln Hockey clubs. He was selected, following trials in Nottingham, for the England under 16’s squad for the home international tournament which was held in Cardiff in July 2007.
The Junior Sports Programme was able to assist in contributing towards his travelling costs.
HOCKEY: Shona McCallin

Shona McCallin, from Dry Doddington, was selected to play for the England under 16’s team. The team won the home international tournament which took place in Cardiff between the 24th and 27th July 2008.
The Junior Sports Programme were pleased to assist in making a contribution towards her travelling expenses for the event.
FOOTBALL: Sam Lucas
Sam attended Leicester Football Academy from the age of nine has now been selected to take part in the Catholic School Federation Games representing Great Britain in Hungary this month. The Junior Sports Programme was able to assist towards his costs.
SWIMMING: Aidan Montgomery

Grantham swimmer Aidan Montgomery has been invited to be a member of the Great Britain team at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai.
The 20-year-old butterfly specialist will be one of a select squad of 16 swimmers and the only East Midlands representative for swimming.
The games take place in Shanghai, from October 2 until 11, and will feature 7,000 athletes, from 169 countries, competing in 24 sports.
Aidan is no stranger to international competition, having represented Great Britain in Sweden at the World Global Games in 2004, and at the INAS-FID World Swimming Championships in the Czech Republic last year. At present he is in Spain on the GB Training Camp.
In January, Aidan took three silvers and a bronze medal in the Double Dutch Open.
Aidan has been swimming since the age of 8 he also helps at the local swimming club Grantham Lynx on a Wednesday evening he is a fantastic Athlete as Advocate representative for Special Olympic Lincolnshire.
In conjunction with J. Hodgson & Sons, the Junior Sports Programme were pleased to contribute towards Aidan's costs in competing at Shanghai.
TEN PIN BOWLING: Danielle Hopcroft

Danielle Hopcroft, 15, plays for Lincoln Youth Bowling Club and Lincolnshire in competitions held throughout the country. Danielle has also represented the county in the under 18 age group whilst only 14. Her dedication and talent has now been rewarded in being selected to play for the Great Britain Junior squad and Hodgson Elkington were pleased to assist with the purchase of a new bowling ball in order that she make the required progression in the sport.
GOLF: Emma Sheffield
Emma Sheffield picked a golf club up at the age of 3 and
has not looked back since.
Emma takes her GCSE's this year but has still found time
to develop her game to an international standard. Emma entered
her first competition at the age of 7 - and won. She was
selected to play for Nottinghamshire County Juniors at the
age of 9 and has since captained the team. She also plays
for the County Ladies Team. She became national champion
of English Schools last year and has played in a number of
international matches for English Schools with several wins
on their behalf. She won the Lincolnshire Schools again on
7th May 2003, following from winning the Notts. County Championships
on 4th May. She has been granted the World Class Athlete
Sports Award with ELGA in 2002 and 2003 and has now been
invited to join the Elite Squad for the English Girls. The
Hodgson Elkington Junior Sports Programme has been able to
help Emma with training equipment.
In 2005 Emma will be representing England in the European Girls Team Championship.
Rowing: Andrew Haigh
The Junior
Sports Programme has provided National Schools and Henley
rowing kit for Andrew Haigh, a pupil of St Paul’s
who was selected in April to row for Great Britain in the
VIII at the 2002 Munich Junior International Regatta. Andrew
is Captain of Boats for his school. His first main competition
in 2003 was the Schools Head of the River which the 1st VIII
won by a margin of 11 seconds. Later that month, he travelled
to Belgium to compete in the Ghent International Regatta,
participating in the Junior Pairs, Junior Fours and the Men’s
Open VIII category with a win in the Pairs.
He was selected again to row for Great Britain in the 2003
Munich Junior Regatta where he won a bronze medal. He hopes
to see his school’s 1st VIII win the infamous Schools’
Triple which involves winning the Schools Head, National Schools
and Henley Regattas. After Henley, there were final trials
for selection of the Great
Britain team at the Junior World Rowing Championship.
Andrew obtained a gold medal for Britain in the Junior World
Championships in Athens where the boys VIII claimed gold by
half a length in an effort that took them up two seats on
the United States and Russia. This was the first time since
1968 that a British VIII has crossed the line first in the
official world championships.
