Junior Sport Photography Competition judging at Carre Gallery, Sleaford

Luis Coy from Lincoln has won the Under 16 section of the Junior Sport Photography Competition at Sleaford’s Carre Gallery. He also carried off the silver award in the open event for ‘Spray Skirt Needed’, a dramatic canoeing photograph.

The event was sponsored by Hodgson Elkington’s Junior Sports Programme. The competition attracted entries from throughout the county with 45 submissions exhibited at Carre Gallery over the past week.

Another double-winner with Gold awards is Ruth Winter who was overall winner with ‘Pure Concentration’, a study of sports day pupils racing. Ruth was also awarded the Award for People’s choice with ‘Hair Raising Fun’.

Silver awards were made to ‘Run, Lazy Boy, Run’ by Alice Caithness in the Under 16 category and Monika Pietkowska in the Under 12s.

Gallery director Martin Cameron said “Judging was extremely difficult as a result of the high standard of entries. A particular surprise was the number and quality of junior entries, several of which were directly competitive with the work of adults”.

Ancholme Rowing Club

By Peter Mordue, Ancholme Rowing Club

Ancholme Rowing Club

Ancholme Rowing Club in Brigg ran its annual Head of the Ancholme race on October 9th.

As usual, there was good representation from the junior membership of Lincoln,  Doncaster, York and Boston Rowing Clubs and St Peter’s School from York.

Ancholme Rowing Club

The river Ancholme is straight and safe to row on and therefore it encourages young people to become competitive in rowing.

Historically many of the junior rowers have undertaken their first ever race at Brigg and have gone on to race at many other rowing events across the country. 2011 was no exception with Ancholme Rowing Club welcoming new junior rowers to the world of racing.

Ancholme Rowing Club

All the youngsters, aged from 11 to 18, enjoyed the competition and team spirit and there were some very good performances.

I would like to take this opportunity to voice our appreciation forthe Junior Sports Programme's very welcome assistance.

By Steve Saunders, Lincoln Tri Club Welfare Officer

Just  a quick e mail to say thank you very much for the contribution towards trophies and mementos for our recent Children’s Triathlon.

We appreciated your help and support.  On the day we had just under 200 children Swimming, cycling and running in glorious weather.

This years Lincoln children's Triathlon was an extremely successful race that everyone seemed to enjoy!  The weather was on our side the whole day, with a perfect temperature for racing that was well enjoyed by everyone.

There was some great racing across all of the age categories and some fantastic smiles too.  All of us racing had a great day and enjoyed the friendly competitive atmosphere.

The support from the crowds was really encouraging!  Many of the local Triathlon clubs turned out in force with coaches, friends and family all cheering each other on, making the day even more special.

It was also fantastic to see some people competing in their first Triathlon and I hasten to add enjoying themselves.  I certainly don't think that it will be their last triathlon as I have my suspicions that they may have caught the triathlon bug.

I really enjoyed watching so many people enjoying the sport that I love most and proudly wearing there finishers bands afterwards.  All that has to be said now is bring on next years event!

There was a great turn out to support the club’s gymnasts in the 24th Annual Club Competition on 26 June.  The venue was the usual club training facility at the St Peter & St Paul’s School, Western Avenue, Lincoln.

Congratulations to all the girls who competed, for taking the plunge and entering the club competition – for some it was their first ever public gymnastics competition!  The gymnasts were judged by the club’s own British Gymnastics Judges.

In recognition of all the gymnasts’ achievements, certificates were awarded to every gymnast.  In addition, the top three gymnasts in each of the competing groups received a medal, with the overall winning gymnasts also receiving a Trophy.  The Club Championship Trophy was awarded to Emily Oldham, the highest scoring Level 5 gymnast.
